Leadership
A founding story about systems, not credentials
Equity By Design began with a question that would not go away: why do schools full of committed people so often produce outcomes no one intends?
The answer, over years of classroom teaching, school leadership, and district work, was almost never about individual effort. It was about design. A family calls three times and reaches no one. A counselor, a teacher, and an interventionist each hold one third of a student's story and never assemble the whole. A multilingual learner's strengths are invisible in the systems that decide her placement.
These are design problems. They can be studied, named, and rebuilt. Equity By Design was created to do exactly that — to bring research discipline to problems that schools usually have to solve by improvisation, and to build the tools and frameworks that make better practice sustainable after the consultant leaves.
The long-term vision
We are building an organization that will still be useful in twenty years: a body of published research, a set of proven frameworks, a family of practical tools like FAM+PACT, and a network of partners who improve each other's practice. Our measure of success is not the size of the organization but the durability of what it leaves behind in schools.
