About
An organization built at the intersection of research and practice
Equity By Design is dedicated to helping schools build equitable learning environments where every learner belongs, every educator is supported, and every family is empowered.
We were founded on a simple observation from years inside schools: the challenges that limit student outcomes are rarely caused by a lack of effort. They are caused by systems that were never designed to work together — communication that fragments, supports that operate in isolation, and initiatives that arrive faster than any staff can absorb.
Equity By Design studies those conditions, designs practical responses, and implements them alongside partners. We are a research organization that builds, a design organization that measures, and an implementation partner that publishes what it learns.
Our work spans districts, individual schools, nonprofits, universities, and policymakers. What connects it is a commitment to educational systems that hold up under pressure and serve the students who have been served least well.
What we believe
Four commitments that shape every engagement
Evidence before opinion
We begin with what the data, the research literature, and the people closest to the work actually show.
Design with, not for
Educators, families, and students are co-designers of every framework and tool we develop.
Implementation is the work
A recommendation that no one can carry out is not a recommendation. We stay through the hard middle.
Transparency about results
We publish what worked, what did not, and what we changed as a result.

Leadership
Why Equity By Design was created
The organization grew out of a decade of work in classrooms, school leadership, and district systems — and out of the frustration of watching good people held back by structures no one had designed on purpose.
